Christ Episcopal Church of Puyallup
This Sunday

October 11th.
The Nineteenth Sunday after Pentecost
(Proper 23)

Lord, we pray that your grace may always precede and follow us, that we may continually be given to good works; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Job 23:1-9, 16-17
Psalm 22:1-15
Hebrews 4:12-16
Mark 10:17-31

8am: Holy Eucharist
Our early service is unaccompanied by music and usually lasts about 50 minutes. Coffee and fellowship are offered before the service begins in the parish hall, while the sanctuary is available for quiet prayer. Another coffee hour follows the service.

9am: Sunday School
In addition to Nursery care for children under three, there are two classrooms of Godly Play offered from pre-school through 2nd grade. 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders are invited to their own classroom where they'll study the Episcopal Prayerbook and Catechism in a pre-confirmation type class. One the first Sunday of most months, a special Children's Chapel event is offered for all kids. This year is brand new for us, so come early (or stay late of you're an eight O'clocker) and join us!

10am: Holy Eucharist
Our late morning service is accompanied by organ music, congregational singing, and the offerings of our adult mixed choir. On the first, and occasionally second, Sunday of each month, Soul Purpose, our contemporary music band, accompanies the liturgy. Nursery care is available for our youngest members and guests. A festive coffee hour for children and adults follows the Eucharist.

Godly Play -
Please contact Kris O'Brien if you'd like to share your time and talent and help reduce the materials cost in our new Sunday School program . Kris has patterns to create many of the Godly Play materials, ranging from simple cardboard and felt cut outs to more complex woodworking projects.

Our annual Women's Retreat is fast approaching and it is definitely a date you need to mark on your calendars.  The date is October 23-26th at St. Andrew's House, Union, Washington.  The cost of the weekend is $180.  To save your spot fill out an application and pay your $50 deposit.  Applications are available in the Parish Hall and can be turned in to the office with the deposit.  If you pay your entire fee before October 1st there will be a $10 discount. If you have any questions please ask Pat Horn, Roddi Barton, Gwena Hedlund or Vickey Clayton.

General Announcements

New coffee mugs with church logo
are here! Some will be in the church kitchen to use for coffee hours, and the rest are for sale to use at home. If you would like to purchase one (or more) they are $ 6 apiece. There will be an envelope for money collection in the box of mugs, on the stage, in the Parish Hall. Please help yourself.

October is 'canned soup month' for the Food Bank
.  Thank you for your generosity!

Forward 'Day by Day' devotionals for November, December and January are in the Parish Hall on the table by the name tag board.

The annual Santa's Seconds sale will be held on Saturday, December 5 from 10AM to 3PM. Setup will be on Friday, December 4, starting at 10AM. We need volunteers! A light lunch will be served on both days.

For the past two years, profits from the sales have been higher than ever before. This was due to the high quality of the donations and taking the time to display them in an appealing manner. Things that always sell well include jewelry, stationery, greeting cards, Xmas decorations, clothing with a Christmas motif, linens, pictures, knick-knacks, candles, toys, games, and current books. Items should be in good repair. Old pieces of luggage; single, unmatched glasses and coffee mugs; and old computers and accessories do not sell well. These items would be best donated to local thrift shops.

Donations may be left in the basement of the Cornerstone or on the back of the stage in the parish hall during the week preceding the sale. If you have questions, please call Stephanie Roberts at 253/840-4370 or by email. Thank you!
